Janssen cares for the environment and the world we live in. Environmental care is a crucial pillar in the sustainability policy. Our company needs large amounts of raw materials, energy and water to make a difference for the health of all people. Janssen consistently invests in more environmentally-friendly products and production processes and accepts responsibility for the environment in the entire value chain, from the discovery of a medicine to the delivery to the patient.

Janssen makes sure that a minimum of product components is discharged to the environment. The company is giving it all for a sustainable transition with regard to energy, waste, raw materials, water, emissions and biodiversity. Many indicators point at positive progress, but also reveal opportunities which the company wants to take at heart. All departments cherish the sustainable ambition to achieve the Healthy Future objectives by 2015.

In this endeavour we focus on green initiatives, often resulting in green certificates thanks to our joint efforts for ecological sustainability. Janssen Belgium endorses the Healthy Future 2015 objectives of parent company Johnson & Johnson and aims for a smaller ecological footprint. The global objectives are aimed at:

SUSTAINABLE ENERGY
Increase the use of renewable energy sources.

WASTE
Reduce waste volumes by 10% compared to 2010.

WATER CONSUMPTION
Reduce water consumption by 10% compared to 2010.

EMISSIONS
20% less CO2 emission by 2020.

PRODUCTS
Improve the sustainability of our medicines and packaging by obtaining 10 Earthwards® labels.

Sustainability

For Janssen, ecological sustainability starts from the development of new products, with the application of green chemistry and green technology.

During the production of our medicines, we aim to continuously improve our environmental performance. At the end of the life cycle of our medicines, we take a careful and responsible line in this context.

In this broad field of action, we aim to reduce our ecological footprint as much as possible: fewer raw materials, efficient production through reduced water and energy consumption, and production of less waste and emissions.

This leads to a win-win situation: Janssen minimizes its impact on the environment from the outset, while, at the same time, saving a lot of time and money in the long run.
